How much caffeine do you consume?

Take a minute to honestly think about how many times you refill your coffee cup, reach for a soda, or make yourself a tea. Averaging 1 cup equals 8 ounces (small coffee mug) how many cups of caffeinated beverage do you think you drink on an average day?
A few months ago I had a colleague who presented me with this challenge. I’m not really a soda lover, and occasionally will order a green tea, but consistently drink 2 (small sized) cups of coffee in the morning. I told myself I likely had anywhere between 2 – 3 servings of caffeine per day.
But my morning beverage wasn’t for the caffeine, it was for the ritual of waking up with a warm mug of coffee and for the taste and comfort. Or so I said.
I decided after that to take caffeine out of my diet. Since 90% was coming from coffee it pretty much felt like I took coffee out of my diet v caffeine.
So i said above i didn’t drink the coffee for the caffeine, and because it wasn’t my primary reason for pouring the cup i didn’t think i was addicted. Until I took it out.
Holy headache. I not only had a headache for a solid 2 days straight but i was also irritable, found myself craving it. That was about 3 months ago. Today i still don’t drink regular coffee. When i feel like a cup of coffee I choose decaf, and mostly i’ve been trying to start my morning with a huge glass of warm lemon water, which helps with rehydration, GI function, and pH balance.
Coffee and Caffeine
Caffeine is a stimulant – drink too much and you’ll find yourself addicted. And again, many studies have shown that moderate consumption of caffeine-rich foods such as coffee, tea, and dark chocolate can help lower your risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and cancer — partially because these foods are all rich sources of disease-fighting antioxidants.
However, coffee and caffeine should be drank in moderation. Moderation is where the trouble lies.
I chose to recalibrate because I found the quantity of coffee and caffeine was more than desired. To reap the benefits of above you don’t need to drink caffeinated beverages habitually and/or multiple times of day.
We should rely primarily on food (like green juice and water!) for energy and reach for coffee and caffeine in small doses and in moderation.
For the rest of January try recalibrating, resetting, and cutting out caffeine. not forever. just for a little while.
