DIY: Help Me Pick A Color!
These are the phone calls that make my heart race. My uncle called me on Friday saying that he heard from a friend that a local library was getting rid of a bunch of things. He knew I was going out of town for the weekend but wanted to know if I’d want anything when he went to check it out. I couldn’t say yes fast enough. I gave him an idea of what I could use (vintage desk chairs, a filing cabinet, and the elusive magical unicorn of the blogosphere…a card catalog.) and hoped for the best.
The next day, this showed up in my driveway right before Conor and I headed up to Maine.
That, my friends, is a vintage metal card catalog cabinet with nine drawers, each divided into four sections. I can’t stand it. Doesn’t this library not pay attention to hipster trends?!? They were throwing it away! I got it for FREE and didn’t even have to pick it up. My uncle is. the. best.
I know the picture is kind of crappy but we moved it down into the cellar (it was a million pounds, BTW) so we could get on the road and the lighting is less than stellar down there…for now. Now that I have the perfect storage piece and some unexpected cash headed my way, I want to get moving on that arts and crafts room I talked about a long, long time ago.
Remember my plan for revamping the whole cellar?
While this card catalog is a little more modern than I usually go for, I think it will be a great focal point once I get fresh coat of paint on it. What do I do?? I’ve been thinking about hot pink/corals and baby blues/turquoise. Maybe brass? Thoughts? Help me!
For the rest of the room, I’m going to start with painting the walls and floor white and then take it from there. You know, blank slate and all that. I want to incorporate a work table with a butcher block top but from there, it’s wide open. Leave your thoughts in the comments so I can get going on this beast!
