Down The Rabbit Hole: 5 Songs to Get You Out of A Post-New Year Funk

As Jessie and I were talking about posts for this week, we quickly realized we were in danger of turning this into Snark Week.  You know, like Shark Week, only bitchier.  Despite my grand musings last week about feeling motivated to get organized in the new year, the bloom is off the rose this week.  I guess my motivation comes in short bursts.

Anyway, I know I’m a little behind the blogosphere on this one but I was just introduced to Gotye (more on pronunciation here) and have been loving this song.  What followed is what often happens to me.  I start clicking through the suggested videos on the side and before I knew it, an hour was gone.  The upside?  My funk was gone too.

Musical taste is subjective but maybe there’s something in here to brighten up the beginning of your day too.

Gotye (Feat. Kimbra) – Somebody that I used to Know

Kimbra – Settle Down

I love a great hand clap sequence combined with refreshingly non-choreographed dance moves.  That’s what I look like when I dance.

If you’re looking for more, check out the slightly more pop-tastic video for Cameo Lover. Pom-pom trim on a hot pink dress and a a repeat performance from those cute little girls?  Yes please.

Lykke Li – Get Some

A big ol’ drum beat, a ridiculous outfit, and an eff you, I do what I want attitude.

Lykke Li & Bon Iver – Dance Dance Dance

This one just makes me happy.  It helps that she pronounces “dance” like my grandmother would if she was feeling fancy.

The Glitch Mob (King Fantastic Remix) – Drive It Like You Stole It

Don’t ask me how I got to this one.  Just say thank you, turn up your speakers and cruise around real slow.  Except you mom, there’s foul language in this song.
